Canals and walks, waterfalls and small cascades, decorative ponds and fountains, grottoes and nymphaeums, spouts and sprays, mirrors, sheets of water and games...
Water at Versailles has a vocabulary as rich as the secrets of the groves.
These words sum up the genius of Le Nôtre who wanted water and sculptures to give life to his garden.
For thirty years, that life was the reflection of the king's as ke walked around the gardens every day and saw his dream come true.
Even before giving his attention to the furnishing of his palace, the patterns formed by the walks and groves was his constant preoccupation.
He filled it with legends, with Apollo emerging from the spounts, Neptune unleashing the storm, and Enceladus attacking Jupiter whom Latona implored.
The ancient mythology pointed to the grandeur of Louis XIV at the same time as it decorated an incomparable place.
The Musical Fountains remain faithful to his wishes, spouting in time with the music and playing around the work of sculpture created over two centuries to offer their spectators a festivity that echoes those of the past.
